Call me uncreative if you must, but this one is a crowd pleaser at my house… and this site is about the crowd pleasers!
Play the itsy bitsy spider to cultivate a love for insects, singing, and finger play all at once (or maybe just your goofy singing and focused attention). Yeah, I would really hate to think that this is why Holden likes bugs, but if you were wondering when to start these goofy things… now’s as a good a time as any.
While the baby is resting in bouncy seat, stroller, changing table, or on the floor, get in front of him and sing “The Itsy Bitsy Spider,” complete with hand movements (wiggle your fingers when the rain comes down, etc.).
I discovered it was time to begin this old classic routine when we had a few extra minutes to kill in the stroller while we were waiting for our hotel room to be ready. Holden especially likes this when I do the motions in front of his face or on his belly (like a tummy massage or interpretive dance number). Oh yes, I ham it up.
