Your baby is going to need a crib eventually, but the keyword here really is eventually. When you first bring your tiny bundle of joy home though, they’re going to spend most of their time right in your arms and you want the space they spend the rest of their time in to be very easy to access. That’s why getting a baby bassinet is an amazing alternative to a crib in the newborn phase.
The reason I see a baby bassinet as an essential is that they give the baby a safe place to sleep right next to you. This will give you peace of mind since you are able to hear, touch, see, and feed them all night long with extreme convenience. Below we will go over the options you should consider when looking for the best baby bassinet for your newborn baby!

Snoo Smart Sleeper– The Ultimate Bassinet!
The Snoo Smart Sleeper is a favorite among many new parents. It’s sleek and modern with only neutral colors.
There is much more than looks to this baby bassinet, though. It was designed and developed to actually respond to your baby’s cries and then to comfort them. It will rock your baby and play a gentle white noise. If your baby is fussing, it will try different rocking and noise intensities to comfort them back to sleep so you don’t have to lift a finger.
There is one thing you need to know about the Snoo, though. It is recommended that you put your baby in the Snoo Sack while in this bassinet, so it is best for babies who like to be swaddled. If you aren’t sure about diving into such a big purchase, keep in mind renting the Snoo is also an option!
Amber rented the Snoo Bassinet for her little guy, Jack. She absolutely loved the fact that it would soothe and rock him after late night feedings so that they could both get back to sleep faster.
Fun fact; this crib was designed by Dr. Harvey Karp who wrote “The Happiest Baby on the Block”, the book I completely relied on to keep my babies happy!
UPPAbaby Bassinet– Best Baby Bassinet for Versatility
Don’t let this option throw you for a loop, although it’s a stroller attachment, it’s also approved for overnight sleeping. You can even buy a stand to clip the bassinet into, making it a full-blown bed option that your baby can safely sleep in until they are around 3-5 months old.
The bassinet prioritizes breathability with a vented base and breathable mattress pad. Another great thing about the UPPAbaby Bassinet is that its machine washable, which is a must because bedtime explosions are inevitable.
It is also awesome to use as a stroller attachment! It is easy to set up and a great way to take your little one on the go during the newborn phase. If you are looking for more information about the UPPAbaby strollers this bassinet is compatible with, check out our article UPPAbaby Cruz vs Vista.
4moms Mamaroo Bassinet– Best Baby Bassinet with Smart Capabilities
4moms gifted Lo with this bassinet, below is her honest review.
First things first, I absolutely love the look of this bassinet and how it fits flawlessly in any room. More important than looks, though, I love the fact that the 4moms Mamaroo has such incredible smart features. You can control it both from the touchpad or from an app on your phone (I definitely prefer using the app!).
The bassinet also has 4 white-noise options plus different motion and speed options. Being able to choose from different sounds, motions, and speeds allows you to really customize the bassinet to your baby’s needs. Since a baby’s preferences change quickly and often this gives some parent-control to determine what works best for their little one.
The Mamaroo is great for both naps or overnight, but I recommend swaddling your baby to keep them snug especially overnight.
Monte White Rockwell Bassinet– Most Sleek & Durable
The next addition to our best baby bassinet list is the Rockwell, which is the perfect balance between rocker and bassinet. It comes in a pretty heather grey or classic white with metal and wooden legs. One bonus of this bassinet is that you get two fitted sheets and the mattress itself is even waterproof.
HALO Bassinest Swivel Sleeper – Best Baby Bassinet to Pull up Close to Your Bed
Being able to do a 360 swivel and pull it right up next to your bed, makes this bassinet super convenient! It also makes soothing sounds and light vibrations. In this bassinet, you can start your baby at an incline, which is a feature many parents love having available to them.
Fisher-Price Soothing Motions Bassinet– Best Baby Bassinet for a Bargain
For all the bells and whistles this bassinet has, it comes at a great price! It can put an overhead projection of stars on the ceiling. Plus, you can turn on vibrations, lights, sounds, and music to comfort your baby.
Bonus, you can assemble this bassinet easily and quickly!
Chicco LullaGo Portable Sleeper– Best Baby Bassinet to Travel With
One of the main reasons parents look into buying a bassinet is that they need something more mobile and simple than their nursery crib. The Lullago nails both those things right on the head. It’s even made to be convenient and light enough to travel with. This includes a tote bag and extremely easy set up.
We also love that it’s a bit deeper than most of the others because you can feel secure leaving your baby in it knowing they won’t pull themselves out.
Babybjorn Gentle Rocking Cradle– The Classic Cradle with a Modern Touch
To end our list, we’ll bring it back to the basics with this simple yet perfect baby bassinet. It’s made of mesh fabric, which is both breathable and allows you to keep your eye on your baby. It’s another option that’s lightweight and easy to move.
What You Need to Know About Bassinets
A baby bassinet is a great option for your baby’s newborn stage. Many can be positioned to be the height of your bed, making them almost like a co-sleeper. You do need to keep in mind that with your baby this close, you’ll hear every movement and grunt, while this can be reassuring if you’re having a lot of new mom anxiety it may make it very difficult to sleep.
You also need to know that as soon as your baby has any sort of mobility, like rolling over or scooching themselves around, it will be time to move on from the bassinet. This is typically around the 3-month mark but varies from child to child.
I loved that having a bassinet allowed me to keep my newborn right next to my bed so I could get to them easily in the night. I highly recommend adding one to your baby registry!
