Whether you are thrilled to be gaining some of your freedom back with the little ones in school or feeling sad that another summer has come and gone, it is time to prepare for the upcoming school year. As a new mama sending your little one off to preschool or kindergarten for the first time, it’s hard to know exactly what supplies they will need for a successful year. Tips for Back-to-School Shopping (from a seasoned mama!)
First off, have your list ready to go when you enter the store. Back-to-School sections of stores can feel overwhelming but if you know what you are looking for, it will be a breeze. You will also probably want to wait to start your shopping until you have received a list from your child’s teacher detailing what exactly they will need.
My go-to store for school supplies is Walmart. They have tons of supplies to choose from so you won’t have to run around town to different places to get everything on your list, and the best part is that it comes at an affordable price. In fact, this year you can find 100+ essentials for under $1!
Does anyone get nostalgic while shopping for school supplies? Yeah, me too. When we grabbed our favorites from Walmart to prepare for this upcoming school year, I couldn’t help but go for some of my favorite brands like Elmer’s Glue and Crayola. These Elmer’s Disappearing Purple Washable Glue Sticks and the Crayola 24-count Crayons were only $0.50 each!
In fact, all the school supplies you see in these photos came out to under $10. It was so nice to be able to get everything we need at such an affordable price while still picking out fun items like Pastel #2 Pencils and the Foil Smiley Faces Folder.

Things like hand sanitizer, wet wipes, Kleenex, and paper towels may not seem like school supplies, but I would highly recommend stocking up on these items as well! If your child’s teacher has not provided you with a list of classroom essentials including things like this, it never hurts to reach out and ask what you might be able to help out with.
If you are looking to have a more stress-free back-to-school season, I highly recommend jotting down our checklist and heading to your local Walmart or just throwing it all in your cart right now for pick-up! You will be able to find all of the must-haves without the worry of breaking the bank, along with plenty of cute and fun items to make the back-to-school season a little more exciting.
