Summer in San Francisco means bundling up in a sweater and cursing that “this is supposed to be July!” The dresses hanging in my closet might feel neglected, except that I have come to learn that instead of wishing it was warm enough to go bare-legged, I need to move on with my life and wear leggings. Mom-friendly leggings are a real thing.
Leggings are part of the mom uniform proposed by Gwyneth Paltrow a couple of years ago. And because I sometimes operate under the influence of celebrity mom role models, I went for it.
About a year ago, I began wearing leggings on a regular basis. I appreciate the way they allow me to make dresses more casual, more playground-friendly, and warmer.
As a brand ambassador for Yummie Tummie, I once received a pair of shaping leggings to review. They immediately rose to the top of my drawer as my favorite pair. Made with a double layer of stretchy goodness, the YT leggings are even better than a regular pair: I feel secure and not exposed when I wear them. Bonus that the snug Lycra smoothes out my abdomen. I would not say that it squishes me in — they are not that tight — but the waist comes all the way up to my ribcage, a kindness to the muffin top.
For nursing moms, having leggings that cover the entire abdomen is a double bonus. Pulling up one’s shirt to breastfeed will reveal a whole lot less skin with the full coverage of these leggings. I wish there was a picture of a more average-sized woman to show you, but the skinny minnie above at least gives you the idea. On me, the waist comes up even higher (but I don’t feel like showing you; I’m secure, but not that secure!).
I’m not trying to sell you, cause I know leggings are not for everyone, but if you’re into it, or the mom-friendly yoga pants or tanks), use our link.
