For moms, we can sometimes have the best of intentions but not know the right things to do. Oh, did I say sometimes? I mean ALL THE TIME!!
I loved this article from the McGill Tribune (discovered via twitter) that says for greater health and attention span in our children and ourselves, we just need to take some walks in the woods. And, here’s the kicker, it doesn’t even matter if you enjoy it!
Citing a study from the University of Michigan, a walk in the woods is good for mind and body, improving “mood, memory, and attention.”
“The idea is that when you’re in nature you can let your mind wander,” says Berman. “There are lots of interesting things to look at, and you can rest some portions of attention. While, in an urban environment, typically you can’t rest attention so much . . . You need to be really vigilant that you don’t get hit by a car or walk into people.”
Before having children, I walked to shop or gossip and I hiked to go camping, but the notion of just walking to walk was ridiculous to me. So, if you’re like me now (“yes, I walk!”) or like me then (“walking is stupid”), then this tip applies to you.
